Our Story

Just like you, every church has a story. Ours began in the Fall of 1986.

1986

Founded in a Home

New Song Church was started by Larry & Karen Jahnke in 1986 in their home on Northview Lane in Bismarck, ND. Gatherings were held there until moving into an old waterbed store in 1987.

The Grand Theatre

By 1988, services were held in the local Grand Theatre, complete with the smell of popcorn, risqué movie posters, and a statue of Charlton Heston's Moses that Sunday School kids tried to climb.

Our Current Home

In December 1989, services began at an old rollerskating rink called Wheel-a-While. We are still in this location today at 3200 N 11th St, Bismarck.

Our Beliefs

New Song Church is affiliated with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. The four squares represent Jesus as Savior, Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, Healer, and Coming King.

01Holy Scripture

We believe the Bible is God-inspired. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

02The Eternal Godhead

We believe God is Triune: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. (2 Corinthians 13:14)

03Fall of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God, but that by voluntary disobedience he fell from perfection. (Romans 5:12)

04God's Plan of Salvation

We believe that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, signing the pardon of all who believe on Him. (John 3:16; Romans 5:8)

05Salvation through Grace

We believe that we have no righteousness and must come to God pleading the righteousness of Christ. (Ephesians 2:8)

06Repentance & Acceptance

We believe that upon sincere repentance and a whole-hearted acceptance of Christ, we are justified before God. (1 John 1:9)

07New Birth at Conversion

We believe that the change which takes place in the heart and life at conversion is a very real one. (2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 2:20)

08Daily Christian Life

We believe that it is the will of God that we be sanctified daily, growing constantly in the faith. (Hebrews 6:1)

09Baptism & the Lord's Supper

We believe that baptism by immersion is an outward sign of an inward work (Matthew 28:19). We believe in the commemoration of the Lord's Supper by the symbolical use of the bread and juice of the vine. (1 Corinthians 11:24-25)

10Baptism of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is to endue the believer with power, and that His incoming is after the same manner as in Bible days. (Acts 2:4)

11The Spirit-Filled Life

We believe that it is the will of God that we walk in the Spirit daily. (Ephesians 4:30-32)

12Gifts & Fruit of the Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit has gifts to bestow upon the Christian, and that we should show spiritual fruit as evidence of a Spirit-filled life. (1 Corinthians 12; Galatians 5:22-23)

13Divine Healing

We believe that divine healing of the sick is provided for in the atonement. (Isaiah 53:4-5; James 5:14-15)

14The Second Coming of Christ

We believe in the imminent, personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

15Resurrection of the Dead

We believe in the resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. (John 5:28-29)

16Eternal Life

We believe in the eternal life of those who believe and the eternal separation of those who reject Christ. (John 3:36)

Membership as Discipleship

Church membership isn't a dotted line to sign — it's a lifelong journey of growing closer to Jesus, together. At New Song, membership is discipleship: a roadmap for following Him one step at a time, in the company of a church family walking the same road.

Wherever you are today — brand new to faith or decades into it — there's a next step, and you never take it alone. Membership at New Song isn't about adding your name to a roster; it's an invitation to go deeper into life with Jesus and His people. It's not required to belong here, but it's the clearest path we know for turning Sunday attendance into a life that looks more like Christ.

Jesus Discipleship (JD)

What it is. JD is New Song's discipleship community — small groups where we learn to follow Jesus in everyday life and help one another take the next step.

Why it matters. Jesus didn't only preach to crowds — He discipled a few closely and sent them to disciple others (Matthew 28:19). We grow best together, not alone.

How to get involved:

  • ✓  Join a JD group for your season of life
  • ✓  Show up, be known, and grow together
  • ✓  Invite someone to come with you
  • ✓  As you mature, help lead or start a group
Connect · Grow
Serve · Deploy

JD is the suggested next step at every stage of the journey — the place where our four steps actually happen. Not required, but the best way to live it out.
